Larder Beetle (Dermestes lardarius)

Larder Beetle are often found in meat processing factories, warehouses, butchers, bakeries and any retail shop that contain animal products. They can also be found in houses. They are commonly found in buildings, which have a problem with poor hygiene or poor housekeeping. Build up of organic debris under fridges and fixtures, which are hard to move, are favourable conditions. The adult can lay up to 800 eggs, which hatch approximately 7 days later. The larvae moults 5 to 6 times and are fully grown in 6 to 8 weeks. They burrow into wood to pupate, which takes up to 4 weeks. The adults will live for up to 3 months.
